Gruelle created Raggedy Ann for his daughter, Marcella, when she brought him an old hand-made rag doll and he drew a face on it � they named the rag doll Raggedy Ann, from here John got the inspiration to write his series of books � On a sad flip to the story the Raggedy Ann doll was later used as the symbol to oppose anti vaccination. John and his wife lost their daughter Marcella after being vaccinated at school for smallpox, authorities blamed Marcella's death on a heart defect. |
